(by Kim Thoday)
It might be useful to ask your congregation, cell group or Bible class this question: “Does Jesus like Christmas?” You might be amazed at the variety of responses. If you ask the question be prepared for some vigorous discussion. My colleague in ministry, Brenton Killeen, recently asked that question of our Church leadership team.
In preparation allow yourself time to reflect upon the question. How would you answer the question? Why ask it in the first place? What does the question presuppose? Like all child-like questions they are often the most profound. Is there an answer to the question? Is an answer the appropriate response to such a question? Does the question matter? Why doesn’t it matter or why does it matter? If it does matter, what then?
Sometimes the best way to understand the question is to respond with another one? Is it? Why? One response might be: “Does Christmas like Jesus?” It might be that Jesus loves Christmas, but will Christmas cope with Jesus? How will you cope with Jesus this Christmas?
May Jesus be with you this Christmas,
