Reincarnation

A friend wrote:

Reincarnation is not part of Christian theology, any more than a risen Christ as essential to *non*-reincarnation is a part of, say, Hindu theology. I have seen Christians argue against the bodily resurrection of Christ (cost a very nice stained-glass window in York Minster, last time) but never one who claimed reincarnation as a Christian philosophy.

My response:

I’ve known personally only one Christian pastor/leader who believed in reincarnation – Rev. Dr. Rodney Romney, senior pastor of First Baptist Church Seattle… Had some interesting discussions with him when we were living up the road in Vancouver, BC…

He calls himself a ‘New Age Christian’ and wrote several books – ‘Journey to Inner Space’, ‘A Promise of Light’, ‘Love Without Conditions’, ‘Wilderness Spirituality’… Quite a liberal thinker (American Baptist, not Southern Baptist!)

Examples of statements often quoted from his works by critics:

“There is no such thing as pure innocence, even in a tiny babe. Every soul carries within it the scars of centuries of wrong thinking and wrong doing.”

“Although [Jesus] did say ‘I am the way,’ he meant he was the way-shower to God. He was not God and never claimed to be.”

‘Discover the Christ within you . . . Teach yourself. Be your own master. Be your own healer. Find the Christ within”
