MOVIE: “In My Father’s Den” 2004 MA A powerful story from New Zealand about the secrets that live in our families that must eventually reveal themselves in the most unexpected ways. It is a telling piece of film making in the spirit of recent NZ films that do so well on male and family issues [Whale Rider, Once Were Warriors] This film tries to unpack trust and a spirituality and a family unit that is out of touch with reality. It also shows that the choices we make at significant times in our lives have consequences and yet the unexpected can happen in such a way that our power to choose is eroded. “What you set out to be isn’t always who you become.”
