Leadership Pressures

Bearing the Load Arrow – “To The Point” Dear Leader,

Do you have something bearing down on you today? Is it significant, even critical?

Leaders are under attack on three fronts: – At the office, expectations and competition is forcing organizations to search for ways of increasing ‘productivity.’

– At home, the breakdown of the family exerts further pressures rather than provide relief.

– Spiritually, time pressures squeeze out the cultivation of a satisfying spiritual life and rob leaders of intimacy with God.

Every leader I know has a tremendous workload. But it is not the load that breaks you down – it’s the way you carry it. John Wesley said, “Though I am always in haste, I am never in a hurry, because I never undertake any more work than I can get through with perfect calmness of spirit”. And Wesley led the greatest revival, ever, in Britain!

If you are in a situation or environment that is fraught with emotional or social pressures and it is distracting you – then seek calmness of spirit. The Bible says it this way, “Number your days.”

This is an important growth area for us as leaders. Often we become so focused on what is immediately in front of us that we lose perspective. Very often wisdom comes to us when we simply stop and ask for God’s perspective.

When you start feeling overwhelmed, try to ‘number your days.’ Look at today through the lens of your vision or calling. We need to keep our eyes fixed on a further horizon in order to find the right pathway there.

What will you do today to ‘number your days’?

Psalm 90:12 NIV Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

That’s to the point,

Carson Pue
