New versions of the Bible

A few of you will be older enough to remember the red letter Bibles, where all the words of Jesus were printed in red. Well the UK Bible Society*** has come up with a new twist.

First,THE POVERTY AND JUSTICE BIBLE

Of the 31000 verses in the Bible,2848 are highlighted in the new publication,The Poverty and Justice Bible just published by the The Bible Society(UK).While copies of this version are available in Aust,Tim Costello tells me that the Bible Soc(Aust) and World Vision(Aust) will soon have an Australian edition available. http://www.biblesociety.org.uk/ It includes a 32 page study guide covering topics “ranging from equality to education, farming to fair trade”.

Second,THE GREEN BIBLE

Includes the following features:”verses and passages that speak of God’s creation are highlighted in green;contributors include McLaren,Wright, and Tutu;a green Bible index and personal study guide, and printed on recycled paper, using soy based ink with a cotton linen cover.” Check it out” http://www.greenletterbible.com/index.php/ As this is being written there is no news, as to, if and when this will be available in Aust.

The research team at the Bible Society(UK) are an interesting mob:take a look at “Is the Bible Sexist?”, “Top 10 Biblical Women” and “The Biblical male and housework”: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article4867388.ece/

One of the UK’s Society’s recent valuable publications is,”The Bible Style Guide:A resource for journalists and broadcasters”(Check the Bible Society’s website above). Well presented and easy to read,it has a use way beyond journalists;eg check the chapter on “Berliner or broadsheet-translating and producing the Bible”.
