From me mate Jim Reiher :
I have thought a lot about why some Christians hitched their wagon to be climate change deniers or at best ‘sceptics’. I really wondered: why? The more fundamentalist the Christian, the more likely they are to be sceptics. But where is the ‘chapter and verse’ that tells the “Do not believe in climate change!” ?
I think I have worked it out! They are the same group who insist on literal creationism instead of theistic evolution! They have already hitched their wagon to doubting the consensus of human scientific effort on that issue … So they feel obligated to doubt the consensus of scientific thought on this more recent topic! To accept climate change might lead to the accusation that they are inconsistent: if you realise that it is wise to accept the consensus of science on this, then why not on evolution too?
And so they are stuck! They feel obligated to be denialists or sceptics. Even as the North Pole shrinks at the same point in summer, year after year after year; even as the Kiribati islands (might have spelt that wrong) have worse tides sweeping over their entire islands now; even as the extremes of the weather get worse and worse… Nothing matters… Just keep denying it!

Moi: But they are prepared to enjoy the best of medical science (what else?) when they need it…
