Today Australians are voting for House of Representatives and (half) Senate. Here’s my take on it:
A. I’ll vote primarily for the party/parties which major on helping the ‘deserving disadvantaged’ – both at home and overseas.
B. My Senate vote will put a number above the line for the party I believe will do A. best (even if they’re a minor party and may hold the balance of power).
C. I then *also* number all the boxes on the Senate sheet below the line (yes you can do that as well as one number – [1] above the line) in the order in which I believe they will pursue A. PS. If you muck up the below-the-line numbering the vote reverts to the party voted [1] above the line. Got that info from an editorial in The Age, and from the local polling advisor.
D. I know virtually or absolutely nothing about 25% of the Senate candidates, and don’t have the time to research them. With those I vote ‘backwards’ to counter others’ ‘donkey vote’.
E. The so-called ‘Christian’ parties? See A above.
So what’s wrong with all that?
