Father Rob Bower’s provocative signs outside his Anglican Church in Gosford, NSW, have been seen by millions around the world through new media leading up to the 7 September 2013 Australian Federal Election.
Two signs, “Dear Christians, some people are gay, get over it, love, God” and “Jesus had 2 dads and he turned out OK” went viral on social media (the former attracted 20 million hits, according to some estimates) and were picked up by international media.
Fr Bower told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: “We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive reaction but certainly in the last weeks when we’ve been commenting on election issues, it’s certainly brought a few people out who had had some very strong views in the other direction… I can only follow what I believe to be true and that is a Jesus who practised radical inclusion.”
